Commonly asked questions about Restylane and Perlane

How do I choose between Restylane and Perlane?
Restylane and Perlane are both made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the body. The difference is in the gel particle size. The gel particles in Perlane have a larger median particle size and are designed for deeper injection than Restylane. During your complimentary consultation, our knowledgeable staff will advise which product will be the right one for you.

Are Restylane and Perlane FDA approved?
Yes, they are approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, like the ones from your nose to the corners of your mouth.

What is the history of Restylane?
Restylane has been used in over 1.4 million treatments in the U.S. and is available in more than 70 countries. It is the most widely used aesthetic dermal filler in the world, with dozens of publications in medical literature. Clinical studies have shown no significant differences in the safety of Restylane and Perlane.

How are Restylane products different than other hyaluronic acid-based products?
Restylane and Perlane contain no animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction. No allergy testing is required before use.

How long do the treatments last?
Restylane lasts about six months, although each individual is different. Perlane lasts at least six months, in a majority of patients. The products' patented stabilization technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect for those time periods.

How do Restylane and Perlane differ from Botox Cosmetic?
Botox and Restylane are used to correct wrinkles in different ways. Restylane products are cosmetic fillers injected into the skin, adding volume to smooth wrinkles and folds. Botox relaxes the muscles that cause frown lines between your eyebrows.

What are the common side effects of Restylane and Perlane?
After your treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. This will normally last less than seven days.

How are Restylane products administered? Does treatment hurt?
Restylane and Perlane are injected directly into the skin in small amounts by an ultrafine needle. Some patients may experience slight discomfort with the injections; if so, we may use a numbing agent during the procedure.
